A Little Of This, A Little Of That, and An Award

Just a little weight loss update.  I am down about 25lbs now and couldn't feel much better about it.  I am doing well and staying healthy, by eating good foods and drinking a lot of water.  This hcg diet I am on is amazing and does work, but it has to be followed exactly or it won't be successful.

I am following it to the tee, as it has proven to work with several people I personally know. Yes, I am being very careful, I promise.

Anyhoodles just wanted to update ya'll on how it's going! Blessings and oh yeah, Alex J. Cavanaugh featured little ole' me today on his blog, apparently I won his 100 followers contest! Yay me! So here is an award just for Alex...
Enjoy! You Deserve it Alex!

My Simple Pleasures For The Week

Hey ya'll I found this adorable Meme over at Susan's Blackberry Jam Cafe and thought I'd give it a try.  If you haven't been over there, go now, just click here or up there where it says...Blackberry Jam Cafe.  Got it? Good.

My simple pleasures for the week are the following:

Letting the boys sleep in an extra 20 minutes, which means not having to listen to them complain about how early it is.

Driving my hubby to work @5:30am. Yes it is early but it is a sweet time to spend together.

Riding my beach cruiser with my daughter and sons.  I had such a great time with them this past Sunday after Church riding around our beautiful city.

Sitting on the front porch bench enjoying the sunlight in the early evening, and listening to the birds twitter-tweet.

Taking time to relax, read the Bible, and just breathe, for me it's not about spending money, but spending time with the people and things I love.

Part 2...Shelley's Story

Shelley had woken up early this morning to a loud intermittent jarring noise right outside her bedroom window. It was about 3am, according to her Mickey Mouse alarm clock. Her parents had apparently not heard anything because she could hear the faint sound of her dad snoring. She got up and quietly crept to the window, but as she looked out all was peaceful once again. Nothing seemed out of place or strange, but just as she was getting back into bed she heard it again.

It sounded like something hitting the metal water faucet just outside her window. So once again she got up and looked out her window, there on the ground was something silver, shining in the moonlight. Shelley opened the window and since it was very near the ground reached out and tried to grab the shiny object, when all of the sudden an arm reached out and grabber her!

The arm was attached to none other than Johnny Dubois, her best friend’s next door neighbor. Johnny and Shelley didn’t really know each other the way people do in a small town, but enough to know they didn’t get congregate in the same circles. Shelley was a member of the one and only Sandyhill Fellowship Friends Church, as was Mary and just about everyone else in town, except for a few heathens here and there…like Johnny Dubois, and Earl Kinkle.

Shelley was an only child to Erma and Bob Watergate, who happened to be descendants of the founders of the town Sandyhill Springs, population 985. Erma and Bob had been married for 30 years and were in love more now than when they first met and married right out of high school. Erma was a stay at home mom while Bob was co-owner of the Piggly Wiggly, the local grocery store.

Bob was generous to a fault, so his wife says, but Bob just did what he felt led to do, like the time he gave Mary Milner her 1st job about a year ago. Turns out she was a great and dedicated worker. Oh and his daughter worked there as well. Shelley worked from 3-7pm Monday through Friday and Mary worked from 4pm-8pm Monday through Wednesday and then on
Friday and Saturday, they both earned $8.40 an hour and made their parents proud.

Shelley was tall and thin, with brown hair that flowed gracefully over her shoulders. Her eyes were hazel and that was the one thing she loved about herself, her eyes. Though lately, it seemed as if nothing about her body made her happy anymore. She had started to cut drastically back on her calories and exercise a little too much, according to her parents.

Shelley had gotten the notion that she was fat from a magazine article she read 2 weeks ago. Now she was wishing she had eaten something last night at dinner.

Shelley had above average grades and didn’t seem to have to work at it like Mary did. They often teased each other over their different methods of studying. Shelley didn’t really have to do much but read something or work a problem once and she had it down. Mary on the other hand had to study every night and work the problem more than once to get it through her thick head. Shelley never made Mary feel inferior though, that just wasn’t her way.

Right about now Shelley was wishing she and her parents had said goodnight to each other last evening. They had been arguing over why Shelley had been exercising so much lately and she had gone and said something mean before going to bed. She had said “Why don’t you guys mind your own business for once”, she didn’t even know why she said it. They were wonderful parents, and they loved her more than anything, besides God, of course.

As far as she could tell she was in the trunk of a car, most likely a stolen car, compliments of Johnny. Her head hurt, the car smelled like gasoline, and it was making her sick. Shelley was only wearing a thin t-shirt and light gym shorts, her normal bedtime apparel, and she was shivering, hungry and wishing she were anywhere else but here. Why Johnny would take her, was beyond her, he was clearly OB-SESSED with Mary, every one knew that.

She had no phone, no paper on which to write a help-me note, no shoes, nothing but her tee shirt and shorts. Nothing to help her leave a trail for someone to find her, all she could do now was pray for God to keep her safe and get her out of this mess she was in.

Shelley and her family lived just across the street and slightly diagonal from Mary and her folks, in fact, if Shelley looked out her living room window she could see into the Milner’s beautiful bay window that opened into their spacious country kitchen. That kitchen was a special place to Shelley. The two best friends had spent many a weekend there cooking and coming up with future plans that would take them away to far off places and on exciting journeys.

Some day Mary wanted to be a chef, at least that is what she had told Shelley just last year when Shelley had confided in Mary that she was thinking of becoming a writer. Shelley just hoped that she was alive to see it. Right now she wasn’t so sure she would be alive to see next week. The creaky car had started to slow down and seemed to be coming to a stop. Shelley heard a car door open and then the trunk lid jerked up and the sun was shining down into her eyes. Johnny was looking at her with a scowl on his face and the next thing Shelley knew she was being dragged out of the car trunk and onto a dirt road, leading nowhere that she recognized.

Johnny told Shelley to start walking and not to look back. Shelley did as she was told; her father had taught her if she knew her assailant to do what they told you. Talk to them as if you know them, use familiar stories about growing up together, that kind of thing. All Shelley could think to do was walk and try not to think of all the what-ifs. It didn’t seem to make any sense to her why Johnny was doing this, but she would probably find out soon enough.

Survey Bible Reading Plan Day 15

Today we are going over 1 King's 17-19, 21 and you can click right here to read it if you haven't already.

In Chapter 17 we read about Elijah the Tishbite being fed by ravens that the LORD had ordered to feed him (Elijah).  Wow, the LORD ordered or instructed the ravens to feed Elijah, that is pretty amazing in my book, no matter how you look at it.  When the brook dried up the LORD provided again for Elijah by the widow at Zarephath.  She was on her last bit of meal and oil but Elijah instructed her to make him a loaf of bread first and then to make her and her son a loaf, explaining to her that the God of Israel said, "The jar of flour will not be used up, and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the LORD gives rain on the land."  Just the fact that she so willingly believed what Elijah said is amazing to me, that she would use seemingly the last of her meal and oil to make a loaf of bread for Elijah based on what he said, shows that at least some people had faith in what the LORD could do, or had done in the past.

We then read about Elijah and Obediah, and how the word of the LORD came to Elijah to go present himself to Ahab and the LORD would bring rain to the land.  So Elijah goes and presents himself to Ahab.  Remember the famine was severe in the land at the time.  So Ahab and Obediah go and gather grass to try to keep the horses and mules alive, each one went in the opposite direction of the other.  While Obediah was walking along Elijah met up with him and tells him to go tell his master Ahab that he was here! Well this does not really go over well with Obediah because of what Elijah had done earlier, hiding 100 prophets from Jezebel who was out killing prophets. Obediah was like after that you want me to go tell Ahab that you are here, how do I know you will present yourself to him?  Of course we know that he did go tell Ahab and Elijah did present himself to Ahab just like he said he would.

It then goes on to tell about Elijah and the Mount Carmel "incident" where Elijah tells the people that he is the last prophet of the LORD and to go and get two bulls and settle who is God once and for all, their god Baal, or his The LORD.  We all know how it went down, the prophets of Baal were humiliated and God was proven right and true as we know He aways is, and of course there was the sound of heavy rain to quench the thirst of the land that had been under severe famine.

We then read how Ahab tells Jezebel everything that Elijah had done, and so in fear of Jezebel, Elijah flees to Horeb the mount of God.  He leaves his servant in Beersheba and travels a days journey into the desert, comes to a broomtree and waits to die there.  After all he had seen God do and been through himself, he says, "I have had enough God, I am no better than my ancestors, Take my life."  Wow, is about all I can say...I have gone through some difficult times in my life, and I have given in to worry, only to be reminded of what God has done and can do still.

The last thing I want to go over is Naboth's vinyard in chapter 21.  Ahab tells Naboth to let him have his vineyard, saying he will exchange it for one of his, or even pay Naboth for it.  Naboth of course will not give Ahab the inheritance of his fathers, so Ahab goes home and pouts.  Jezebel comes to him, finds out the problem, and says, "Get up, eat, I'll get you the vinyard of Naboth."  Jezebel goes and writes letters in Ahabs name and sends them to the elders and nobels in Naboth's city.  Here is what the Bible says, 9 In those letters she wrote:

"Proclaim a day of fasting and seat Naboth in a prominent place among the people. 10 But seat two scoundrels opposite him and have them testify that he has cursed both God and the king. Then take him out and stone him to death."  Can you believe this? What gumption she had.  We know what happens next, Naboth is stoned to death and Ahab takes possession of the vineyard.  But, I love what happens next, Elijah gets a word from the LORD about what has happened, and goes and confronts Ahab.  Here is what happens next:

17 Then the word of the LORD came to Elijah the Tishbite: 18 "Go down to meet Ahab king of Israel, who rules in Samaria. He is now in Naboth's vineyard, where he has gone to take possession of it. 19 Say to him, 'This is what the LORD says: Have you not murdered a man and seized his property?' Then say to him, 'This is what the LORD says: In the place where dogs licked up Naboth's blood, dogs will lick up your blood—yes, yours!' "

20 Ahab said to Elijah, "So you have found me, my enemy!"

"I have found you," he answered, "because you have sold yourself to do evil in the eyes of the LORD. 21 'I am going to bring disaster on you. I will consume your descendants and cut off from Ahab every last male in Israel—slave or free. 22 I will make your house like that of Jeroboam son of Nebat and that of Baasha son of Ahijah, because you have provoked me to anger and have caused Israel to sin.'   And that is exactly what happened.  The End! Today's reading assignment is 2 King's 1-2, 6-7, 11-12 and you can read that here if you'd like.

Survey Bible Reading Plan Day 14

Sorry, I have to apologize to you all, I have been slacking on my Bible study due to some other obligations, but mostly because I have been sick, but I am back on track and think I will take it a little easier, and maybe doing 2-3 a week instead of 5. We shall see.

Today we are going over 1 King's 3, 6-12 and you can click here to read the passage if you like.

First we read about Solomon asking for wisdom, something we all need to ask for.  I like what it says here: 7 "Now, O LORD my God, you have made your servant king in place of my father David. But I am only a little child and do not know how to carry out my duties. 8 Your servant is here among the people you have chosen, a great people, too numerous to count or number. 9 So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?"

I also like how God answers Solomon: 11 So God said to him, "Since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have asked for the death of your enemies but for discernment in administering justice, 12 I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be. 13 Moreover, I will give you what you have not asked for—both riches and honor—so that in your lifetime you will have no equal among kings. 14 And if you walk in my ways and obey my statutes and commands as David your father did, I will give you a long life."

Next we read about how Solomon rules in the case of the two mother's who are arguing over a baby. Solomon is very wise in his ruling don't you think.  Next we read how Solomon builds his temple and palace.  How the ark is brought to the temple, Solomon's prayer of dedication, and the dedication of the temple.

Now this next part I really like...1 When Solomon had finished building the temple of the LORD and the royal palace, and had achieved all he had desired to do, 2 the LORD appeared to him a second time, as he had appeared to him at Gibeon. 3 The LORD said to him:   "I have heard the prayer and plea you have made before me; I have consecrated this temple, which you have built, by putting my Name there forever. My eyes and my heart will always be there.

We then read about the Queen of Sheba visiting Solomon, way cool.  She was actually overwhelmed over Solomon's wealth, can you even imagine? We then read about Solomon's wives, wow he had a lot right! 700 wives of royal birth, and 300 concubines, and wouldn't you know it, they turned his heart away from God and the LORD became angry and raised up an adversary against him.  Yet he does not destroy Solomon because the LORD had made a promise to Solomon.  He did take the kingdom from Solomon's son as well as ten tribes.  Next we read of Solomon's death and his buriel with his fathers in the city of David.

Finally we read of Israel rebelling against Rehoboam, and the golden calves at Bethel and Dan.  Our next reading assignment is 1 King's 17-19, 21 you can click here to read this passage if you like.  We will do this one on Wednesday!

Today's inspirational quote is...

Be assured, if you walk with Him and look to Him, and expect help from Him, He will never fail you.
